Oversize prints, roman stripes, lush florals, chintz, chessboard tiles, and exuberant color — all signature Dorothy Draper moves. Her sense of whimsy and playfulness is infectious; her passion for color + flowers is so inspiring, especially for fetes as joyful and full of fun as weddings.

Inspired by Dorothy Draper

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I’m in love with the Fall issue of Elegant bride, particularly the “Peak of Chic” article mid way through the magazine, inspired by the designs of Dorothy Draper. Draper was an amazing woman – she professionalized the field of interior design. Known for color combinations that were bold, vibrant and unusual for the time, checkerboard flooring and her signature “cabbage” chintz and stripes, Draper’s influence is often referred to as the “Draper touch.” Wouldn’t it be fun to add a dab of modern day “Draper touch” to a wedding? Think Kate Spade china, Cheree Berry invitations, touches of gold, an elegant, simple gown…oh so glamorous but totally fun and playful!
