Oversize prints, roman stripes, lush florals, chintz, chessboard tiles, and exuberant color — all signature Dorothy Draper moves. Her sense of whimsy and playfulness is infectious; her passion for color + flowers is so inspiring, especially for fetes as joyful and full of fun as weddings.

do you pin?

I’m so super addicted to pinterest. Several months ago, a client encouraged me to join, and I did, having absolutely zero idea what the hype was about, but it’s truly one of the most useful tools that’s been introduced online in a long time. It satiates my need for visual organization in a major kind of way. Gone are the days of organizing + cross referencing thousands of images on my desktop.

I believe my obsession devotion has paid off since merriment has recently been recognized as a tastemaker in weddings + events! I’m pinning handfuls of boards thematically for weddings — from color stories, to paper details, to Richmond focused wedding inspiration. The classic board has to be one of my favorites though.

But, lately, I’ve been obsessing over pinning ideas for baby. From baby shower inspiration to a generalized board with all things bitty.

Chevron Wedding Details

chevron wedding inspiration

Hello! Brittany here again with my second post on the merriment blog! Chevron is such a fun and popular print these days, in fashion, in decorating, and of course in weddings. It’s one of our favorite patterns too — a certain someone I know may use it for her baby shower! It’s the perfect accent for a classic and preppy wedding or for a fete that’s a bit non-traditional too.

Things I took away from the Royal Wedding

Friday, April 29th, 2011

In no certain order….

Gigantic boutonnières are a no. Please note how dapper and sophisticated Mr. Middleton looks with his diminutive boutonniere.

Royal Wedding_William Kate

Sleeves are always stunning, and surprisingly original, given how popular the strapless white wedding gown is.

Wedding parties look fabulous in white.

You don’t always have to wear your hair up, despite what your mother might say. And, by your mother, I mean my mother. ; )

Classic always wins: green and white flowers, lily of the valley, white wedding shoes, weddings with decorum, and on and on…you get the picture.

And, other things, for which I don’t have pictures.

*Don’t rush your reading! If James Middleton can deliver a reading in front of the entire world without rushing, so too can you!

*Be on time! British punctuality warms my heart.

*Simplicity is elegance.

*Don’t raise your glass when people toast to you. Did you note that the Queen did not taking part in singing “God Save the Queen?” That’s because it was being sung to her.

A Survivor’s Breakfast

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

breakfast party

I’ve read that Price Harry is hosting a 6am “survivor’s breakfast” for anyone who survives the late night (and early morning) festivities following the Royal Wedding. Brunch parties are always fun, but they’re an especially charming way to punctuate a weekend of wedding merriment!

Easter entertaining inspiration

I really can’t wait to see more tablescape designs from Remodelista. This Easter table, a collaboration with Gwyneth Paltrow, introduced the series.
