Courtney studied art history, focusing on modern art, and graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University’s art history program. She then spent two years at The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in development working on the museum’s capital campaign, organizing donor events and assisting the major gifts manager. With projects completed on the capital campaign, Courtney set her sights on graduate school. She attended the #1 nationally ranked Brandcenter, where she studied strategic planning and earned an M.S. in communications. At the same time, Courtney began penning her blog and soon realized her calling had found her. As what was then little white book, but is now the merriment blog, grew and became nationally recognized, Courtney began taking her first event clients and her first styling clients.
Courtney has since produced weddings at signature locations such as The Country Club of Virginia, The Jefferson (where Merriment is recognized as a recommended vendor), Maymont and many private homes. She has also produced social events for clients such as Anthropologie in Richmond and The Shops at 5807. Her styling clients include The Sorrell Company and Virginia Living.
Her keen eye for style and color combined with the discipline of strategic thinking ensures that each event Merriment crafts is original, meaningful and, above all else, full of fun and laughter!
Courtney’s work has appeared in Bride & Bloom Magazine, Southern Weddings and Weddings Unveiled. She was recognized as one of the most important people on Pinterest in 2011.
